Reasons to Give to BSSS For 18 years, Bornblum Solomon Schechter School has been providing Jewish children in the Memphis community an exceptional secular and Judaic studies education. We strive to prepare our students to become knowledgeable, committed Jews and menschlike citizens. It is our priority to maintain the highest standards of academic excellence in a caring, nurturing environment. We are so fortunate to have many generous benefactors who believe in our mission and goals. Like all independent schools, BSSS relies on charitable
gifts from parents, grandparents, alumni, past parents, and community
friends in order to offer our community the finest general studies and
Judaic program curriculum. The primary source of income for BSSS is tuition.
However, tuition income does not cover the entire cost of a Schechter
education or the actual expenses of operating our school. Further, the
necessary dollars to provide scholarship assistance to families who may
not otherwise be able to provide a Jewish Day School education must be raised each year. Our donors make all the difference!
There are many ways to support BSSS: Annual Giving Campaign Each year, BSSS relies on gifts from parents, grandparents, alumni, past parents, and community friends in order to support The Giving Campaign. Dollars raised are generally used within one year of when they are raised, and are used to support the annual operating budget of the school. Specifically, your gift and commitment to BSSS is enabling us to:
We are so thankful for your ongoing support of our school.
It is because of you that BSSS can play a key role in educating our Jewish
leaders of tomorrow. Heritage Campaign The future of our success depends on the generosity of all of our parents, grandparents, alumni, past parents, and community friends. BSSS has embarked on a $4.5 million dollar capital/endowment campaign called the Heritage Campaign. Donations will be matched dollar for dollar up to two million dollars due to the generosity of our benefactor Bert Bornlum. Donations to the Heritage Campaign will go to improve and expand our current facility and grow our endowment. With expanded facilities for academics, art, music, a larger gym, and a grand space for school gatherings, our campus will fulfill our vision for the school.Endowment Fund Endowment provides permanent funds that BSSS can rely on year after year, generation to generation. As Jews, we put our faith in the future with the hope that we will continue to endure and thrive for future generations. For our future success, it is imperative that we establish long-term financial stability. Planned and Deferred Gifts There are many ways to make a lasting gift to BSSS. Current gifts can be made with cash, stock, real estate, or another readily marketable asset. These gifts can be tax-deductible. Deferred gifts are another way you can support BSSS. These are gifts that take place after your lifetime. Options include naming BSSS in your will through a bequest, purchasing a life insurance policy with BSSS as the beneficiary, naming BSSS as the beneficiary of your IRA or other qualified retirement plan, or establishing a life income gift a gift that pays you income during your lifetime and benefits the school at your death. Whichever option you choose, deferred gifts receive favorable tax benefits and are a wonderful way to support the organizations most important to you.
For more information on ways you can make a deferred gift in support of the school, please contact Laura Linder Executive Director, at The Jewish Foundation of Memphis at 374-0400. Honorariums / Memorials Tributes are a wonderful way to recognize a simcha, mark a milestone, or remember a loved one. Tribute cards may be purchased at the BSSS office for a minimum contribution of $10. A card will be sent to your designee informing them of your contribution to BSSS in honor or memory of a loved one. Tribute donations can count toward a parent's PEP obligation.
